ENGLEWOOD, Ill. (June/9/2016)— Dave Thompson’s Organic Healthy Grow® and Ace Hardware stores of Chicagoland teamed up to donate a dozen beds’ worth of Healthy Grow fertilizer to Growing Home, an urban farm in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Growing Home’s mission is to grow healthy, organic and sustainable food while assisting those in the community struggling to find meaningful, long-term employment. Healthy Grow is made from aerobically composted litter of healthy, egg-laying chickens at the Thompson family farm in Pearl City, Ill.

Healthy Grow and Chicagoland Ace Hardware stores are longstanding community advocates; both are excited about the opportunity to help Growing Home. Mark Steinhauser, Chicagoland Ace Hardware store owner, explains, “As locally owned Chicagoland businesses, we believe in doing our part to give back to the people and organizations that enrich and strengthen our community. This partnership with Growing Home and Healthy Grow does just that.”

“Today’s donation is part of our national campaign to highlight groups and organizations that enrich communities. From local garden initiatives, like Growing Home, to our partnership with the Chicago Cubs, Healthy Grow remains a committed partner in supporting vibrant community programs,” said Mitch Cooper, director of marketing, Healthy Grow. “It is important to recognize strong community- building programs like Growing Home, and we’re thrilled to partner with Ace Hardware stores of Chicagoland to honor their work.”

Growing Home has been growing vegetables and herbs while providing the community residents of Englewood with job training and work experience since 2002. Along with the healthy, all natural food that is grown in their gardens, their workshops and workspace are also offered to the community.

Stephanie Douglass, farm enterprise director, said, “Growing Home has a commitment to healthy food, healthy people and a healthy society. Everyone deserves to eat well, be proud of what they do, and contribute hope and skills to their community.”
